Southwestern In Vivo Cellular and Molecular Imaging Program

Core 4
Chemistry
(Directors: Ralph P. Mason, Ph.D., C.Chem. and Tom Kodadek, Ph.D.)

The core chemistry lab will provide support to the Program at several levels:

1) Development and evaluation of novel gene reporter molecules led by Dr. Mason

2) Development and identification of novel bioactive molecules lead by Dr. Kodadek. As genetic and molecular targets are identified as part of this research program, members of Dr. Kodadek’s lab will propose, synthesize, and evaluate bioactive molecules. He has worked closely with Dr. Corey in the past, identifying fruitful lines of research. Access to phage display libraries will accelerate ligand discovery

3) Derivatization of key agents for radiochemistry labeling, e.g., addition of ligands to chelate radionuclides. In order to trace the fate of many bioactive agents, they must be derivatized with metal-binding chelates. The chemist will be responsible for executing such syntheses.
